First weeks

Hello friends and family!!

Well, we are 4 weeks into Evi’s life and so far it’s fantastic! She’s so much fun even though she really does nothing. Today she really started responding to my talking to her in a sing song voice. And she’s tried to make a few cooing noises. She’s getting there. I just love my time in the mornings with her. Which brings me to phone calls…a few of you have called, a few times, and I haven’t answered, and I haven’t returned calls in a timely fashion. I would like to say sorry, and too bad!! Teehee!!! I have turned the phones off in the bedroom, and down in the rest of the house so that we won’t be disturbed in case we’re napping. And when we’re not, she’s usually attached to my boob, so I’m not going to run for a phone. I always mean to call back, but I now have “mother’s brain” as my mom calls it and never get around to remembering to do it. Let’s just say I have better things to do, like stare at my child. It’s like falling in love. When you first meet that special someone, you spend all your time with them. Your friends and family fall to the wayside. And when the newness wears off (sometime between now and the next 18 years) I’ll return all the phone calls. Everyone keeps telling me how little they are this for such a short time and to enjoy it as much as possible, so I’m doing my best. Anyway here is a family pix.

1 month

well, evi is one month today. what did we ever do before. it's seems like so much longer than a month ago that we had her. parenthood is great, scott's a lot of help (except at night - he seems to have no problem sleeping through her grunting and crying out - typical man!) although since he has no milk producers, he wouldn't be much help anyway. speaking of milk producers, i am quite enjoying the new boobies too! they are definite first for me!
thanksgiving morning we woke to find one of evi's eys crusted shut. come to find out, she has an immature tear duct. i just knew she had gotten sick from someone handling her, but luckily, no.
well, here are a few new pix of our sweet evi. one is with santa, we did that this weekend.

3 months

well, she's 3 months now, and changing constantly! she weighs 14lbs!! yes that's 3lbs since xmas. needless to say, eating is not a problem with this one! she's starting to show personality. she responds to us and smiles. the pix attached is one of her smiling - at least some step of a smile, those suckers are hard to catch on film!
her sleeping is getting pretty good. she gives me at least 5 hour sessions at night (sometimes up to 8!) and sleeps from about 9 to 9. so i'm usually only up twice at night, and only for about 20 min. and she's napping like a champ (knock on wood) as long as i start rocking her, or nursing sometimes, before she's been up for 2 hours, she goes down quick and easy. and it has gotten a lot easier to recognize her sleepy signs. now, i'll admit, it's not that easy every time, but it is more often than not. in general, she's fat and happy! and so is mommy - i can't stop eating! but i just keep telling myself i'm burning the extra calories through breastfeeding, which i love, by the way.
we took a trip to dallas to see a dermatologist about her hand. the dr. said it will probably fade by the time she goes to school without laser treatment, and had pictures of before and afters of other kids. so her red hand should be gone before kids have a chance to be mean.
anyway, enough of my babbling - here are some pix of evi

4 months

well, she's 4 months old now!! she is sleeping in her own crib in her own room as of this last weekend. (granted, i have taken to sleeping on a twin on the floor of her room...but that's temporary...i promise, no really, it's temporary...mom, stop laughing!) yes, i can't believe it either, i have become one of those over protective moms! i never thought i would be, but i am!
she's a curvey 15lbs! she's in the 75% for weight and height, but the 95% for the size of her head!! surely it means she'll be highly intellegent, or just that she'll have a big hat size. she's playing in her exer-saucer like a pro, and is always trying to pull herself into a upright position when leaning back, but with those big ol'cheeks and belly she just keeps right on going forward. i keep trying to tell her we are in no hurry to sit up, crawl or walk, but she obviously has her own agenda. we have a routine of 2 hours of wake time to at least 40 min (hopefully) of sleep time through out the day. and boy, she's not easy to please if she goes past 2 hours awake! all in all though, she's a pretty happy baby and we're having fun with her. here are some new photos of the chunkey-monkey.

5 months

yes, she is 5 months now! i can't believe how big she is and how much personality she has now. she smiles and laughs (and cries) and talks "evinese". she's been sleeping 7+ hours lately at night, (cross my fingers...toes, legs, arms...)which made mamma a refreshed woman! but now she'll start teething soon and all that will be down the drain from what i gather from you moms-before-me. but i'll take it while i can get it.
she's getting pretty good at putting herself to sleep if i leave her alone in her crib, which is great too! no, i don't let her cry herself to sleep. i haven't really needed to.
she's really trying to sit by herself, and loves her baby einstein videos (as does mommy!). she has found her toes, which is totally cute. we've started rice cereal, and she loves it! she wants to help get it to her mouth. and she completely concentrates on watching our every move when we eat and drink. we now have to watch her tiny hands around all food and drink. (i've already worn salsa down my jeans!) i thought i would send comparison pix this time. each month on her birth date i take a pix of her in her texas bib to see how she's grown. so here is her 5 month, and the one from her first week.

6 months

evi is now 6 months! she's been sleeping through the night (knock on wood!). of course mommy isn't because i still get up to potty & pump the food bags. i hope to someday get 8 hours straight in without waking! i know all you other moms out there are laughing!
(ok, i wrote this the other day, and last night we were up several times, so she made a liar out of me)
she's sitting up pretty good on her own, but if she reaches for a toy it's usually all over. she's very vocal and can definitely let you know when she's not happy. so far she hasn't met a baby food that she doesn't like. (like me, it's all about the food for her) when you kiss on her, she grabs your face and plants a big wet lick on you, which i'm assuming is her trying to kiss too. it's pretty cute, and slobbery. she isn't crawling yet, but you can tell anyday now she's going to rise and bounce across the floor. (when you stand her up, she doesn't try to step, she wants to bounce) she can roll to where ever she wants to go though. (dad - marni likes to sing asleep at the wheel's rollie pollie to her. it's fitting, she is her daddy's little fatty!)
overall, she is a very happy, good baby. now we're just waiting for the teething to start! aaaauuuugggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!
anyway, here's new pix

7 months

evi brie is now 7 months. and what, you ask yourself, is my gifted child doing now?...just kidding, by no means do i think my child is gifted, but i do think she's pretty damn cute - yes, i'm biased. anyway, she's still not crawling. while most of me is glad and in no hurry, a small part of me is anxiously awaiting this milestone. she does get up on her hands and knees and rock, although she does this mostly in her bed while waiting to be rescued. if we're in the room she see no reason to work so hard when we can just return her to butt, or exer-saucer for her. she did pull herself to a standing position in her crib yesterday using the rails (only to immediately let go and fall over).
she loves the cat and dog and is very entertained by them. the cat, chloe will not get near her when she's awake, and i have suffeciently scared the dog from getting anywhere near evi or anything that belongs to evi.
no sign of teeth yet, so we're still sleeping through the night, 11 to 12 hours! momma's loving it. (by the way, i turn 30 next weekend!! 30!!!!!)
she did have her first french fry the other day - by accident. we were eating lunch at a restaurant, and she had a fry off the plate and in her mouth before the plate hit the table. it was pretty cute. so here's some pix of evi.
